Brian Doherty, President, and Tom Brow, Rules Interpreter, presented and discussed video clips of Massachusetts and Colorado high school football games as well as recent college football games with emphasis on how the rules are different in high school games played under Federation Rules at the ANEFO Meeting on Monday, October 21, 2019.
First, Tom Brow discussed another “You Make the Federation Call?” This week’s scenario involved an NCAA play during which a punter on forth down carried the ball five yards beyond the neutral zone and then made an illegal kick; the ball was subsequently muffed by Team A downfield and recovered by Team B. The same play was then discussed using Federation rules and how the enforcement outcomes are drastically different.
Next, a video clip titled “2019 Fox CFB Plays – Week 4” was presented highlighting the following: targeting, a receiver getting hit as a defenseless player, a blindside block by Team A after an interception, a blindside block on a pass play, blanketed unsportsmanlike fouls called on everyone on both teams at the start of the game, illegal snaps, a coach coming onto the field before an eminent on-side free kick, defensive linemen shifting or stemming laterally, a catch or no catch, the ball touching the ground during a run, defensive holding on a screen pass, and holding an eligible receiver.
