Jim Mello, NFL Official, and James Kearney, ANEFO Suffolk County Governor, and Tommy Brow, Rules Interpreter, were the featured guest speakers at the ANEFO meeting on August 29, 2016. Their handouts, summary of their presentations, and/or resources are located at the bottom of this article.
First, Jim Mello, a former ANEFO official and now a NFL official, shared his story of how his career started with local eastern Massachusetts high school football games. From there her rose up the ranks to become a college football official and eventually to the National Football League. Next, James Kearney spoke about “Common Sense” officiating. His wisdom, insights, and suggestions inspired all officials. Finally, Tommy Brow discussed the following: three difficult plays found on the ANEFO 2016 Pre-Season Exam, the offensive tackle box with regards to blocking below the waist, the offensive blocking zone with regards to clipping and blocks in the back, the defensive blocking below the waist, and a review the new rules for the upcoming season.
