Gary Donahue, ANEFO official; and Tommy Brow, Rules Interpreter, were the featured guest speakers at the ANEFO meeting on October 3, 2016. The topic of the evening was major fouls in the game of football. Their handouts, summary of their presentations, and/or resources are located at the bottom of this article.
First, Gary discussed blocking below the waist by the offense, the tackle box, the legal clipping zone, clipping, chop blocks, contacting the snapper, roughing the kicker, horse collar tackles, leverage, leaping, landing on a player, targeting, tripping, facemask fouls, player participating without a helmet, roughing the passer, kick catch interference, batting a pass, batting a loose ball, and kicking a loose ball. Later, Tommy showed three video clips that illustrated onside kicks. Then he discussed horse collar tackles, clipping and blocking below the waist, low blocking zone, facemask fouls, flagrant personal fouls, unsportsmanlike fouls after a touchdown, and several interesting “You Make the Call” plays.
