There was a meeting of the ANEFO on Monday, September 4, 2018. First, Skip Likins, ANEFO President, discussed his expectations for future meetings. He also indicated that a breakout group for linesmen will occur at our next meeting. Later, Tom Brow, ANEFO Rules Interpreter, discussed three interesting scenarios involving a blocked field goal attempt all on third down. The first play involved the block attempt within three yards of the line of scrimmage but the ball then hit the ground beyond the line of scrimmage and then was recovered by Team A behind the line. The second play involved the block attempt within three yards of the line of scrimmage but the ball then first hit ground behind the line of scrimmage and then it was recovered by Team A behind the line. The third scenario involved a blocked field goal attempt, recovered by Team B who ran sixty yards for an apparent touchdown but fumbled the ball at the A-2. The ball then went into the end zone and then a Team A player batted the loose ball across the end line. The officials in the audience had an opportunity to discuss all three plays. Later, several 2018 NCAA referee video training clips were presented to the officials. The handout with the answers to the three “You Make the Call” is attached below.
