Richard Cacciatore, President, presided at the sixth, in-person ANEFO meeting of the 2021 Football Season on Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Irish-American Club. President Cacciatore greeted the members and discussed various updates about the football season.
Bob Prestera, Secretary-Treasurer, was the first guest speaker. Bob explained how the private Independent Schools (ISL) “Overtime Rules” are different than the public school overtime rules. The ISL teams play under modified NCAA rules and not NFHS rules. In the ISL League, during any overtime series if there is a turnover (interception of fumble recovery) the play is not dead and the defense can return it for a 2 pt touchdown. In ISL overtime, it doesn’t matter if the turnover occurs in the first series or in the second series. Bob also announced there are new rules for Pop Warner games; those new rules will be posted on our website this week.
Tom Brow, Rules Interpreter, was the second guest speaker. Tom presented three interesting “You Make the Call” scenarios. This week the scenarios involved plays that occurred in recent games: Lowell vs. Tewksbury; Needham vs. Brockton (archives); and Masconoment vs. Danvers.
