Al Bartolini, President, presided at the first ANEFO meeting of the 2022 Football Season on Monday, June 20, 2022, before a packed house of officials at the Irish-American Club. President Bartolini greeted the members and discussed various updates about the upcoming football season. He announced the 2022 NFHS Rule Books have not arrived yet due to shipping issues. The rule books will be distributed at locations in Danvers, Malden, and Methuen once they arrive. Al also encouraged all members to solicit people to become football officials; Al said, “Recruit, Recruit, Recruit!”
The ANEFO preseason exam will be posted online in the near future thanks to the diligent efforts the pre-season exam committee consisting of Mike Hegan, Kevin Chapman, Rich Harrington, Ed Dubish, and John Mattuchio.
Tom Brow, Rules Interpreter, was the guest speaker. Tom presented a visual presentation that included the new NFHS rules for the 2022 season, an explanation of the Team Box, when and who can change a ball during the game, the single digit number “0” is now legal, chop block redefined, the offended team’s game clock options with less than two minutes remaining in either half, a new exception to the play clock when the defense commits a foul, and the new rule that allows a team to throw the ball away to conserve yardage if two conditions are met. Tom also presented several videos that illustrated the illegal forward pass exception.
