Richard Cacciatore, President, presided at the first in-person ANEFO meeting of the 2021 Football Season on Monday, June 28, 2021 before a packed house of officials at the Irish-American Club. President Cacciatore greeted the members and discussed various updates about the upcoming football season. Rick announced that all eight division MIAA semi-final and final games will be officiated by seven-person crews. This means an additional 48 officials will be working the games! Rick also thanked the members for their understanding during the past season, and he offered high accolades to the preseason exam committee consisting of Mike Hegan, Kevin Chapman, Rich Harrington, Ed Dubish, and John Mattuchio. Next, Bob Prestera, Secretary-Treasurer, announced that, although we received the NHFS Case Books, the NFHS Rule Books would be forthcoming; due to an ordering snafu at the MIAA Office.
Tom Brow, Rules Interpreter, was the guest speaker. He first demonstrated how to access the MIAA website and the ANEFO website. Next, Tom presented a visual presentation that included the new NFHS rules for the 2021 season, a definition of blocking below the waist, several videos that illustrated blocking below the waist from local high school games derived from Hudl, and an explanation of the free blocking zone.
