Bob Prestera, Secretary-Treasurer, presided at the fifth ANEFO meeting of the 2022 Football Season on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Irish-American Club in Malden. Bob greeted the members and discussed various updates about the upcoming football season. Bob requested that all members be very careful not to post unprofessional information about high school football games, assignments and/or any thing remotely connected the ANEFO or high school football or youth football. As a member of a professional organization, it is important to remember “what is said is in the air, what is written on social media is always there”. Bob also reminded officials of the importance of getting the correct spot with regards to forward progress on runs and catches. Also, if you are not registered with the MIAA by October 1, 2022; you will not receive any playoff games. The handouts or resources from the meeting can be found online in “ANNOUNCEMENT” and “RULES” tab of our website: www.anefo.org. Select “Double Fouls & a Field Goal Attempt – September 19, 2022”.
Tom Brow, Rules Interpreter, was the guest speaker. Tom presented a visual presentation that included an interesting “You make the Call” for a double foul involving five men in the backfield, a “clean hands rule” for a block in the back during a play in which time expired. Next, Tom presented five reminders involving: what teams may do during an injury timeout; what teams may do after a score and before a free kick; what a player may do with his/her helmet; the live ball foul involving breaking the huddle and then not all players being set for a second; and the “mercy rule” in Massachusetts. Later, Tom presented and discussed six Hudl football play clips from recent local football games. Finally, Tom asked the audience to “turn and talk” about a field goal attempt that was blocked in the end zone. Once you start his video presentation, there will appear a [-] symbol in the bottom right corner. It is important that you select the [-] symbol to see the video in full screen.
