The 2019 ANEFO Annual Awards Banquet was held at the Irish-American Club in Malden, Massachusetts on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. This capstone season event is historically the Monday before the annual Thanksgiving Day football games. Richard Cacciatore was the master of ceremonies, and he introduced the retirees and special guests. The platters of food kept coming and coming; the dinner was once again outstanding!
Bob Prestera, ANEFO Secretary Treasurer, presented the two ANEFO scholarships to children of ANEFO officials; this year, the two recipients are both college bound. Many officials received the traditional ANEFO award certificates for length of service. Next, the Fred Gardner Longevity Award was presented to Gerald Chiarelli. Later, President Brian Doherty presented the President’s Award to the following a student-athlete: Matthew Crowley, a football player from St. Johns Preparatory School. The C. Howard Smith Official’s Award was next presented by Bob Prestera to a surprised, almost speechless, teary-eyed, and well-deserving Ron Hobby. Later, the William McDonald High School Official’s Award was presented to a stunned and speechless Don Werner. Next, the Paul Tighe Award was presented to David McCarthy, a top-notched official. Later, the Mark T. Crehan’s Coach of the Year Award was presented to Northeast Conference: Head Coach Lou Cicatelli from Revere High School. Finally, Brian Doherty, passed the gavel to Richard Cacciatore, and the ANEFO wished him a successful term as the new president. Once again, it is a tip of the official’s hat to the ANEFO for an outstanding banquet!
